Admission Requirements

For admission, a bachelor’s degree is required in one of the following fields of study: German Literature and Linguistics, English Literature and Linguistics, French Literature and Linguistics, Ibero-Romance Literatures and Linguistics, Indian Studies, Italian Literature and Linguistics, Latin and Greek Philology, Communication and Media Studies, Art History, Modern Greek Literature and Linguistics, Musicology, Nordic Linguistics and Literature, Oriental Studies, East Asian Studies, Philosophy, Romansh Literature and Linguistics, Religious Studies, Slavonic Literature and Linguistics, Social and Cultural Anthropology / Ethnology, Theater, Dance and Film Studies, Theology, Comparative Literature, or Central Asian Cultural Studies.

If you studied one of the required subjects, but do not have sufficient knowledge of the relevant discipline, you can be admitted with additional requirements (“Auflagen”). Any knowledge gaps will be identified on the basis of the academic requirement profile.

If you don’t have a Bachelor’s degree in the required field of study, an admission sur dossier is possible if the academic requirement profile is fulfilled. 

If sufficient academic knowledge is lacking, admission with additional requirements (“Auflagen”) is granted. Any knowledge gaps will be identified on the basis of the academic requirement profile. 

Academic Requirement Profile

Admission to the consecutive Mono-Master study program in literary studies requires at least 21 ECTS credits in the field of literary studies. Applicants without the required number of ECTS credits are given additional requirements as appropriate. Admission without additional requirements is granted with the bachelor’s degree in major or minor study programs in German Literature and Linguistics, English Literature and Linguistics, French Literature and Linguistics, Greek Philology, Ibero-Romance Literatures and Linguistics, Indian Studies, Islamic Studies, Italian Literature and Linguistics, Japanese Studies, Latin Philology, Eastern European Studies, Philosophy, Sinology, Scandinavian Studies, Slavonic Literary and Language or in minor study programs in General and Comparative Literature, Classical Studies, Romansh Language and Literary Studies, as well as in all bachelor’s degree programs of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Zurich with 120, 90, 60 or 30 ECTS credits which will end by Spring Semester 2023 at the latest.
