Admission Requirements

The specialized Master’s degree Literary Studies does not link to a specific program but is open to students with a Bachelor’s degree in linguistics or related fields: German Literature and Linguistics, English Literature and Linguistics, French Literature and Linguistics, Ibero-Romance Literatures and Linguistics, Indian Studies, Italian Literature and Linguistics, Latin and Greek Philology, Communication and Media Studies, Art History, Modern Greek Literature and Linguistics, Musicology, Nordic Linguistics and Literature, Oriental Studies, East Asian Studies, Philosophy, Romansh Literature and Linguistics, Religious Studies, Slavonic Literature and Linguistics, Social and Cultural Anthropology / Ethnology, Theater, Dance and Film Studies, Theology, Comparative Literature, or Central Asian Cultural Studies.

Admission to the specialized Master’s degree Literary Studies  requires at least 21 ECTS credits in the field of literary studies at the undergraduate level. Applicants without the required number of ECTS credits in the field of literary studies or with a bachelor’s degree except the required fields of study are given additional requirements (“Auflagen”).

Further requirements are:

  • Motivation letter
  • An independently written paper in German or English
  • Very good knowledge of English or German on academic level (listening, reading, speaking), including academic writing skills in English

At the request of the study program directorate:

  • Other evidence of qualifications relevant to the study program (e.g., seminar papers translated into English)
  • An oral admission interview

The decision on admission to the study program is made by the study program directorate.
